Time Line To Charles Bourke
1914
August 13th - Nationwide Recruiting Begins
August 27th - Enlisted in Australian Imperial Force #699 Private Charles Bourke, D company, 3rd Battalion, 1st Infantry Brigade, 1st Division. Bourke is listed at 5'5'', 135lbs. He is 20 years old and has committed no crimes against the Commonwealth. He is a compositor by trade and from NSW Australia.
August 31st - The Battalion begins training at Randwick Race Track.
October 20th - The Battalion boards HMS Euripides troop transport. She is the first of 38 troopships carrying Australian soldiers to their destination, Alexandria.
December 4th - Disembark Alexandria Egypt. Third Battalion sets up training camp "Mena".
1915
April 25th - Bourke lands with 1st Brigade at ANZAC Cove, Galipolli, in support of 3rd Brigade already ashore and meeting stiff Turkish resistance.
July 2nd - Bourke is wounded in action somewhere around Russell's top defending the far left of the Australian line.
July 9th - Bourke is admitted to B.W. Head hospital Cairo
July 22nd - Bourke Discharged and returns to duty
November 4th - Bourke proceeds to join M.E.F, Zeitoun base camp Egypt
November 13th - Bourke rejoins 3rd Battalion at ANZAC Bolton ridge trenches

Allied forces under cover of deception complete the greatest withdraw of forces the modern army has known. Bourke is involved in rearguard cover ordered to" hold until the last man" while AIF completes brilliant withdrawal from Galipolli Peninsula.
December 29th - Embarked HT SIMLA to Alexandria 29-12-15
1916
January 24/27th - 89 hours. Award: Forfeit 4 days pay and 7 days F.P. Tel-el-Kebir.29.1.16
January 29th - CO 3rd Battalion RE Crime…breaking camp and remaining absent from 0600
February 19th - Bourke is recommended to Lance Corporal
March 23rd - Bourke along with entire AEF embarks Alexandria aboard Grampian.
March 28th - Disembark Marseilles France
April 20th - To be temp Lance Corporal
July 7th - Confirmed Lance Corporal
July 21st - Killed in Action

December 10th - The records are somewhat unclear at this point. It appears Bourke was awarded three medals for his services the 1914/15 Star #17034, The British War Medal # 2829 and the Victory Medal #2820.

September 21st - Disclosed the fact that Charles Bourke was a single man and that the estate of the late George William Bourke was the Last next of kin…file disclosed

This fact is reported incorrectly though as all of Charlie's family were still alive except his Father and Mother.
