Horace Ashington

Horace T William Ashington

Born 21/8/1919 at Blackwall Reach, Gorleston, Norfolk.

Attended Stradbrooke Road School

As a ten year old he was nicknamed `Ashey´, he had two mates Leslie Bodecote and Fred Taylor, they attended Stradbrooke Road School together, played football for the school team and in their spare time on the Gutting Meadow, Horace and Fred were later to play Football for England, against the Dutch and Scotts in a Japanese POW Camp.

At the outbreak of World War Two he inlisted in the Royal Norfolks with Fred and they did their training at Gorleston Holiday Camp.
